To do this you will need a tripod and a camera where you can zoom, focus, and expose manually. Manually focus the tree and make sure that your zoom is wide out. Then expose the tree for five seconds and then zoom in while exposing. Once you hit the end of your zoom range end your exposure. You should end up with something like this.
